The Road Hammers "Blood, Sweat, & Steel"
Title: Blood, Sweat, & Steel
Artist: The Road Hammers
Label: Montage Music Group
Release Date: June 24, 2008
Overall Grade: A+

The Road Hammers have successfully named their band appropriately. It describes exactly what kind of music you can expect from the band. This is what I call open road country music. Its high paced, country dashed with hard-hitting rock styled music. It’s a great album to have in heading on down the interstate or anywhere you needed something with a little more power than normal to enjoy.

They know their style; they stick to it and own it to the core. “Blood, Sweat & Steel” certainly has the potential to the beginning of a great career for this band on the Montage Music Group. There aren’t many bands these days creating music like this, and they are doing a fine job filling that void. The lead-off track “I’m a Road Hammer” explains it all in what a road hammer exactly is. If you like your music with a good, hard-hitting drum beat with a country twang, hold on for a great ride of music. Believe me.

“The Hammer Going Down” and “I Don’t Know When To Quit” are among my best picks of this album, as well as the current single “Girl on the Billboard.” Each of their songs stay well in the boundaries of their style, yet each are a bit unique in its own way. This album is more of musical experience, rather than just something good to listen to.

The music on the album is excellent, vocal work is among the best you can get, and even lyrically the album overall is strong. Usually, from a sound like this, the lyrics are a little less quality, but not from The Road Hammers. It is really hard to explain what you get from this album, I highly recommend just taking a moment to check out a clip or two to really feel this great sound.

Now, any good road style country band can’t forget to include Jerry Reed’s “East Bound and Down,” The Road Hammers are no different. Their version gives the song a bit of a modern uplift, yet maintaining its integrity, and it’s a damn good cover I must say.

This is one album that will stay nicely seated in the CD player for a good while. You can’t get tired of a sound like this talented group. If this one doesn’t get the blood pumping in you, well, you need to check your pulse.
