The Bellamy Brothers
Artist: The Bellamy Brothers
Title: Jesus Is Coming
Release Date:May 8, 2007

Overall Grade: A

The Bellamy Brothers have been a strong force in country music for over thirty-years. Surprisingly enough, this duo has never released a full gospel album, well until now. This album isn’t a collection of hymns or even their favorite Christian songs, rather eleven brand new gospel songs written by The Bellamy Brothers ( 1 by Howard and 1 co-written with Jesse and David) and two others we will discuss in a moment.

The album isn’t your typical gospel album, as you can already tell. Let’s just put it this way, you will find the this album inspirational, enjoyable, and even comical at points (for the right reason of it being funny.)

“Drug Problem” leads the album off with a lyrics that will get you laughing. “I was drugged to church on Sunday Morning, I was drug to family reunions…” the song begins. How about “Lord Help Me Be the Kind of Person (My Dog Thinks I Am”.)

You see my point.

Now, yes there is a lot of fun songs on the album, but there also your more traditional style songs as well. “Grandma’s God” is a song that takes on a topic of living a Christian life like our grandparents. “Grandma’s God is mightier than all of the universe.. his love is a real love, like her love for us” they sing. One of the best tracks on the album, “Old Hippie II (Saved”) tells the story of a 55 year-old man and how he is getting older but his faith is still strong. A beautifully produced and lyrical strong track.

Now, just when I’ve heard all the versions of “I’ll Fly Away” possible, The Bellamy Brothers bring us a reggae style country version of this timeless classic. Only can this talented duo make this work. The sound worked so well, that the similar tempo was brought to their gospel remix version of their classic hit “Let Your Love Flow.” Again, it works nicely.

Throughout the album, the duo brings us their well established style that has brought them so much success. Not straying from the sound at all, in which made this a great listen.
